GoDaddy have acquired FreedomVoice, a US based VoIP Provider, to deliver voice services to their portfolio of services tailored towards SME customers. With 14m customer globally, GoDaddy has a huge opportunity to cross sell services to these customers and recognises that voice communications solutions are key to SME customers and this acquisition will enable them to target their customers effectively.

FreedomVoice cost GoDaddy a reported $42 million in cash plus up to $5 million in potential future milestones payments with most of the team remaining with FreedomVoice. With over 200,000 SME customers, the synergies between the two companies are clear. It will be interesting to see whether GoDaddy can find ways to use technologies like WebRTC to deliver integrated voice products into their current solutions to really deliver an differentiated voice product to their customers.

The European VoIP Summit 2016 was a great success! March 9, 2016

1On Tuesday, the 1st of March, The Cavell Group hosted the second European VoIP Summit, where over 200 attendees from over 60 VoIP service providers gathered in central London to address the opportunities and challenges the industry is facing and explore what to expect from the future of voice communications.

As with the range of topics, we also had a range of opinions with speakers from all key VoIP providers in Europe joining us, such as BT, Blueface, 6 Degrees, Vonage, TalkTalk Business, NFON, Liberty Global, Gamma, Voxbone, Siphon, Destiny, 8×8 and many others, as well as Vendors such as Yealink, Broadsoft and Genband who were our Gold Sponsors

Although much of the day was focused around how the industry is currently operating, a lot of focus was put on what the future of VoIP and SIP Trunking will look like. The industry believes a ‘disruptor’ might appear, like what messaging has seen with WhatsApp, which will enter the market and take significant market share.

A very interesting discussion around WebRTC and Applications with viewpoints from Vendors, Service Providers and developers showed that it might not be the Service Providers developing the applications themselves, but instead they will allow developers to work with them to provide vertical solutions for their customers. WebRTC looks like it is starting to become that enabler for services in the future as communications move onto the web and away from the traditional end-point. Whether Service Providers will be able to charge for minutes in the future was again a hot discussion point.

We had a very interesting talk from Matthew McDermott and Mark Swarbrick on the state of regulation across Europe, followed by Cavell’s newest partner Q Advisors who gave a background on the M&A work they have been doing around the world.

With Matt Townend’s closing remarks and networking drinks we concluded this year’s event was a great success! Our aim was to bring together VoIP service providers and create an opportunity to discuss current and future market aspects in a friendly and open networking environment. We believe our diverse group of speakers and panellists provided different points of views, at times even conflicting, thus enabling you to understand the bigger picture of the European setting.

We are happy to say we have received many positive comments and your feedback truly reflects the atmosphere everyone experienced. We are very thankful for your participation and we hope to see you at our events again! Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to our Gold Sponsors: Broadsoft, Genband, and Yealink, and to our silver sponsors: AudioCodes, MDS Amiba, Mitel, Polycom, ProVu, RingCentral, Siphon, and Vanilla IP for their amazing support!

DENVER and LONDON, Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Q Advisors and Cavell Group are pleased to announce that they have formed a strategic alliance.  Through this alliance, the two firms will capitalize on Q Advisors’ deep global investment banking expertise in the telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) industries and Cavell’s research and consulting capabilities in the cloud, VoIP and managed services arenas to offer expanded services to clients in the U.S. and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA.)  The impetus behind the alliance stems from a growing European hosted unified communications (UC) market that is anticipated to almost double in size within the next three years and a maturing U.S. cloud market with significant growth potential in the mid-to-large enterprise segments.  U.S. service providers are particularly well poised to tap into the accelerating European cloud growth opportunity, while large European operators are looking to expand their operations into the sophisticated U.S. cloud market to serve U.S.-based enterprises with multi-location, global operations.  Q Advisors and Cavell are therefore joining forces to ensure they can fully service the spectrum of investment banking, research and advisory requirements that global firms typically need to pursue cross-border transactions.

“Our strategic alliance with Cavell Group, a leading research and consulting firm in the telecom, cloud, and managed services sectors, will enhance our offering, particularly for U.S. TMT companies seeking to expand into Europe.  We will be in a better position than ever before to provide deep intelligence on these highly specialized sectors and more local access in Europe,” stated Michael Quinn, a partner at Q Advisors.

Matthew Townend, Director, Research & Consulting, Cavell Group said, “Our strategic alliance with Q Advisors is a natural extension of our current activities. It will expand our reach into the U.S., while enabling our EMEA customers to benefit from Q Advisors’ expertise. Our firms are confident that through our combined market-leading expertise and experience, we can help our clients accelerate the growth of their businesses.”

Q Advisors and Cavell will officially kick off their alliance at the upcoming European VOIP Summit on March 1 in London, hosted by Cavell Group.  Quinn and Townend are both slated to speak at the conference, along with a roster of industry leaders.    More information on the conference can be found at http://www.cavellgroup.com/events/european-voip-summit.html.

Redcentric acquire InTechnology’s Managed Services business. November 20, 2013

Considering we saw little M&A activity in the Hosted VoIP market at the start of 2013, the last few months have seen significant changes in the makeup of the market. We have already seen Broadsoft acquire HIPCOM in August and 8X8 purchase Voicenet Solutions last week and now Redcentric has announced that they have bought InTechnology in a £65 million cash acquisition.

Redcentric, a spin off of Redstone, purchase signifies a move which Tony Weaver, CEO of Redstone, claims will create “the leading independent managed services business in the UK”.

This move has formed so far the third biggest B2B networking and data player in the UK market with only Daisy and Easynet who are significantly larger then Redcentric now are. With an increasingly fragmented market, moves such as these are giving companies a way to push through the barrier of being ‘midmarket’ and with further M&A activity the makeup of the market could be set for a significant change.
