The 3rd quarter saw the business SIP trunking market grow by just over 11%. The growth was less than we saw in previous quarters, the slow down in growth over the summer seems to be down to macros concerns with the economy although we have seen signals of strong growth again in October. The total number of trunks reported was 187149, this was made up from growth from traditional players but also demonstrates an increase in the number of active players selling services. What was clear as well is “not all trunks are the same”, with providers remarking that they were focusing on the likely revenue per trunk rather than just the number of trunks, as there is large difference in the utilisation & revenue between different trunk customers.

illume has just compiled its 3rd quarter figures for the business Hosted VoIP market, and although the market broke the 500,000 seat mark reaching 521459, the quarter on quarter growth slowed to 4%. Indications from a number of providers is that October is certainly looking a lot stronger. We had another mixed bag of performance within the figures with some providers showing strong growth and others stagnating, we also saw new entrants with Tipicall entering and Daisy launching their BNS capability across the business. We are starting to see both significant churn among certain providers and more and more frustration around the ability to port numbers across all providers.  illume will be publishing its annual report on the hosted market in December, if you would like details drop a email to info@illumeconsulting.co.uk
